In order to achieve and complete my Seven Summits goal l will need ongoing financial support from loyal and enthusiastic sponsors. It will be extremely difficult to follow my aspirations without the financial backing of committed sponsors.
During the 2 years of lockdown it gave me the opportunity to hike and explore Zambias free standing mountain Mt Mumpu and the highest peaks Mafinga Mountains which the highest is only 2,339m.
With my immediate goal being Aconcagua and Everest I am currently training for 2 day 100km challenge in 2 weeks time in the hilly Muntinino Wilderness. I run 7 to 10km three times a week, I hiked 40km just this Saturday. I hike at least once a week my shortest is usually a 21km longest is a 42km. Ndola is relatively flat so to get mountain fit I walk up and down the stairs of our highest building which is 10 floors x 10 times with a back pack. I resistance train in the gym after my morning runs. I started a 2022km Challenge for the gym this year and so far I have covered 765.6km mainly running and hiking. Just bought a new mountain bike so will soon start cycling challenges after the 100km Challenge.
With Covid affecting our businesses, as I am sure you were also directly harshly impacted, for the last 2 years this is now trying to play catch up to reinvest in the businesses and at the same time get to climb my mountains and don't want to put it off too long. I have tried applying for several mountaineering scholarships and was shortlisted for AWExpeditions for Women by Women as they try to promote mountaineering to women, I was top 60 out of 650 applicants but unfortunately did not get any scholarships.
To get a little more experience I was thinking of maybe doing Island Peak before Mt Aconcagua this coming season.
I have used all my expeditions to raise money for various charities in Zambia. We have helped build a Mothers Shelter in Silangwa Ndola Rural and with Mt Elbrus and my other trips we have helped build the very first centre and clinic for children with psychotic illness in Zambia which will be officially opened next Month. The 100km Muntinono Challenge I am currently raising money to sponsor 5 youth that suffer with depression to get professional help with a qualified therapist as suicide rates have increased in Zambia lately. I also give a percentage of what I raise to the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). We have also raised money to end period poverty here in Zambia as young girls end up missing school when they have their periods as they cannot afford sanitary towels so we provide for free reusable washable towels which are also eco friendly.
I have been in the newspapers and on local TV as I slowly encourage especially women into mountaineering and hiking.
If there is anything else you would like to know please do not hesitate to ask but I am training hard and will be mountain ready.
